I’ll never forget my student teaching experience with you at Canby High School. Now as a veteran teacher myself, I still remember your words of wisdom from so many years ago: “Prior planning prevents poor performance” and “Papers pollute the home.” You were right! Thank you for everything and I look forward to reading more of your work. You inspire me!

Not sure why the sixty feet of pubic hair bothered you though. I will catch more fish then you next week.

Personally, I prefer the kind of outdoor scene portrayed in your photo. I often sit outside with a clipboard writing longhand, while listening to the wind blow through the pine needles, to the background music of running water.

“…I did it for the buzz. I did it for the pure joy of the thing. And if you can do it for joy, you can do it forever.”

Just returned from a trip to California, near Yosimite National Park. Caught a few trout and yes, we did eventually have to kill them. Great setting for another short story.

Sadly, I’ll be regurgitating my knowledge about the metabolism of fish for my bio exam. By the way, we ate at a tiny little restaurant in Wheeler this weekend. I was imagining all the characters of Trout Kill fitting in perfectly in that town. Our waitress at the restaurant reminded me of one of the waitresses at Sparky’s place.

I loved the Sutherlin reading. It was fun to share the experience with so many classmates. However….I want to attend another reading as the joy of sharing time with and being around classmates distracted me much of the time.

No doubt the opportunity for me to attend another reading will happen. I will start a second Trout Kill read and enjoy the next reading even more.

Hey, I’ve been thinking of you since the Sutherlin reading. It was a great experience for me, and I hope you, too, but I was left with the feeling we’d just barely scratched the surface of the possibilities. So much to think about and discuss about the book. I guess that’s the “English teacher” in me. Anyway, hope you’re doing well and staying happy!
