Quote of the Day: “Every moment of one’s existence one is growing into more or retreating into less. One is always living a little more or dying a little bit.” ― Norman Mailer, Advertisements for Myself
And so, here I am standing on the stoop of Norman Mailer’s last home in Brooklyn Heights. Mailer died at the age of 84 in 2007. If he was still alive and living here, I’d have bought him a beer, and then maybe we’d have an argument about what a lousy NYC mayor he’d have been, and maybe he’d throw a punch and we’d have a fist fight. One can always dream of growing into more, and never retreating into less. That is, in a nutshell, Eddy Trout’s quest. And now I’m inspired to read The Naked and the Dead.
